venice

Currently freezing but extremely happy, as light snow falls from the slate grey skies in one of my favourite places on earth. Boats for buses, canals for roads and the feeling that it could still be the 16th Century as so little has changed here in Venice. Overpriced, touristy, stuffy, and a little pongy, yet magnetically appealing there really is nowhere else on earth like this. And in winter when the water is high but the visitor numbers are comparatively low, you can easily loose yourself in the backwaters of this unique city and float from bridge to bridge, fondamenta to fondamenta reveling in the watery wierdness of it all and forgetting that there is another car crazy world away from here. Venice is always magical and never more so than now.
